In the Paper

I recently appeared in the Charleston post and Courier Business Review section ( with two of my co- workers) as the new web designer for Siebert Technology Group, Inc.

Mothers Day

If you were at the Dillards department store on the week before mothers day chances are you saw me there doing quick portraits for Dillards

The cosmetics department offered free portraits to customers who spent $75 or more. When the dust cleared  I'd drawn 35 portraits.

How much would something like that cost? See Quick Draw fee chart .

Demonstration at the Gibbes

On Friday Dec. 7th I had the honor of demonstrating my pastel portrait technique for the Gibbes Museum of Art as a part of the French Quarter Art Walk.

In the demonstration I didn't attempt to finish the piece but chose to show the piece in it's various phases from sketch to finish.

Gibbes cont.

I fielded questions from the audience and explained the reasoning behind my method. Some of the questions were:

Q: How many types of mediums are used to produce a portrait?

A: Three; color pencils, watercolor, and hard and soft pastels

Q: Why use watercolor?

A: I use watercolor as an under painting as a means to play with color relationships. To create subtle contrasts.

Q: How long does it take you to finish a portrait like this?

A: 20 hours

Q: Why do you like pastels?

A: Pastels are very forgiving and lend themselves to lots of cool accidents.
